2010 Paleo Challenge!

Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a blast ringing in 2010. Now that the holiday season is over and we have binged on all the goodies that came along with the season, it’s time to get serious. Many people make resolutions to get back in shape, run marathons, eat right, etc. These resolutions are just words until you take the first step. So to help you all out Nutritionize is sponsoring a Paleo Challenge! This challenge is open to anyone who wants to accept. Starting today make a commitment to go Paleo for the next 30 days. This is how it works:

  1. If you accept the challenge post to comments. Also state YOUR own benchmark (wod time, weight, bf, etc.) and what your goal is. Sharing makes it real.
  2. Over the next 30 days the Nutritionize blog will serve as a support forum for you, where you can post comments, questions, challenges, recipes, etc. and communicate with other challengers.
  3. At the end of the 30 days post your benchmark and see how Nutrition has impacted your performance
  4. Have fun getting back on track!

There is no fee for this and no kickoff seminar but there will be lots of support. WE know you will see results from a Nutritionized lifestyle and we want YOU to experience it.

The Paleo Lifestyle is very straightforward, here are the guidelines:

There are no rules around portion size; however eat only until you are comfortably full. Eat as often as you like. All foods meet the following criteria:

The essentials of the Paleolithic Diet are:

Eat the following:

  • Lean Meats
  • Eggs
  • Vegetables (especially root vegetables, but definitely not including potatoes or sweet potatoes)
  • Nuts, eg. walnuts, brazil nuts, macadamia, almond. Do not eat peanuts (a bean) or cashews (a family of their own)
  • Low Glycemic Fruits (eg. Berries- strawberries, blueberries, raspberries etc.)

Try to increase your intake of:

  • Root vegetables- carrots, turnips, parsnips, rutabagas, Swedes
  • Organ meats- liver and kidneys (I accept that many people find these unpalatable and won’t eat them)

Eat none of the following:

  • Grains- including bread, pasta, noodles
  • Beans- including string beans, kidney beans, lentils, peanuts, snow-peas and peas
  • Potatoes
  • Dairy products
  • Sugar
  • Salt

Julia and I are in for the challenge. I think we would both like to lose a few pounds. I could lose maybe 10 lbs. and Julia 15 lbs. Can’t wait to get it going.

I am doing a Paleo/Zone diet. It eating in Zone blocks with Paleo foods. I have been trying to find a starter menu to get me going but all I can find is either strictly Paleo or strictly Zone. Has anyone created a mixture of both??
