With the holidays right around the corner it’s nice to get a refresher on how to please the taste buds (and family) without jeopardizing your belly. A great place to start is with the Zoleo Philosophy. If you have come to a Nutritionize seminar then you may have heard about this new age caveman and his eating habits. Zoleo was born when a Paleo cave woman met a scale carrying Zone man. As with every relationship you take the best of both people and nurture those qualities to create something that awesome. In this case it was Zoleo. Okay enough with the cheesy story. Basically Zoleo takes the best of the Paleo diet and Zone diet and bridges them together in a way that works EVERYWHERE. Don’t just take our word for it, try it for yourself and modify as needed!
Try to apply this philosophy to your holiday season and see how great you feel!
Here are the basics:
-
Prepare your kitchen with the appropriate foods:
- Fruits, Veggies, Meats, Nuts, Seeds, Water, and Fish Oil
- Fruits, Veggies, Meats, Nuts, Seeds, Water, and Fish Oil
-
Prepare your menus for meal balancing and insulin management. A balanced meal will sustain energy for at least 4-5 hours.
- Take a dessert plate (for snacks) and a dinner plate (for meals) and draw a big “Y” on it to split the plate in thirds.
- 1/3 of the plate has protein, 2/3 has carbs and add a dash of heart healthy fat (avocado, nuts, olive oil)
- Take a dessert plate (for snacks) and a dinner plate (for meals) and draw a big “Y” on it to split the plate in thirds.
- Avoid eating gluten products that can inflame the gut. Yes that means give up the loaf of bread and the pastas and pastries.
- Eat often. Within an hour of waking up and every 2-3 hours after that.
- Drink plenty of water
- Take about 2-4 grams of fish oil a day.
Holidays are a time for fun, food, and family so enjoy all the goodies and splurge a little in a way that still makes you feel great. The best part is that the philosophy folds up nicely and fits in your brain so you can take it anywhere you go!
What is your Nutritionized Thanksgiving meal going to be? I am looking forward to some turkey, sweet potatoes, good wine, and pumpkin pie (dash of splurge).
Nutritionize!
